Helping those living with dementia find joy in everyday life!

About Dan

Dan Torrence has devoted almost 30 years of his life to serving elders in a variety of settings — including large national corporate facilities, community-based assisted living communities, and individual consultations — and has gained a keen insight into how the different models serve specific individual elders.

For the last nine years, he has provided personalized, loving, respectful care for elders with dementia through his company, Welcome Home Communities, which operated two adult care homes. His approach is characterized by an open, engaged, and personalized approach to care which involves family at every level.

Dan is a Positive Approach to Care® Certified Independent Consultant, trained by the esteemed Teepa Snow, and considers the work of caring for those living with dementia a sacred honor and privilege. He comes to this work honestly, first learning to appreciate seniors through a close and loving relationship with his grandmother. He later cared for his own mother through the last seven years of her life.

With grace, dignity, and respect, Dan has worked with a variety of seniors and their families through end-of-life. He has acquired a deep knowledge of the long-term care profession which allows him to find the perfect fit between the person and the care environment.

Dan views dementia as a deep spiritual journey, where we partner to support a family/person in their journey. Dan’s easy demeanor, use of humor, and ability to be emotionally present help clients and their care partners find joy in the natural rhythms of everyday life.

He lives in Portland, Oregon, with his husband, Keith, and their adorable dogs, Sgt. Pepper and Lucy in the Sky.
